This map covers all of England and Wales, and extends to show basic detail of southern Scotland and eastern Ireland. It is densely filled with place names and depicts roads, rivers, and topography. The map is further embellished with a title cartouche featuring two goddesses, including Athena. Emanuel Bowen was one of the leading English mapmakers of the 18th century. Unusually, he obtained royal appointments as engraver to both the French and English Royal Courts.
