This fascinating, ephemeral piece celebrates Britain's contributions to the Allied Powers during World War I. At its center is a world map identifying the British Empire in red overprinting and includes Canada, South Africa, India, Australia and New Zealand. Several ocean routes link these regions to the seat of war in mainland Europe. Surrounding the map image is a series of vignettes demonstrating Britain's dramatic growth of its armed forces, including its army which grew from 275,000 in 1914 to 5,000,000 in 1916. Expenditures also grew exponentially with one year of war costing 2.4 billion pounds (100 years ago). Published by Roberts & Leete in September, 1916 for an unknown publication.
