This engraving depicts the Tower of Babel as described by Herodotus of Halicarnassus (c. 484–425 BC), known as the Father of History. This engraving was first published in the 1592 edition of Herodotus’ Histories, edited and printed by Henry II Estienne in Geneva. This example was included in a composite atlas of Braun & Hogenberg views.

A nice impression on watermarked paper with show-through of old manuscript text on verso. A chip and short tear at top left have been professionally repaired.
