This is a stunning map of the classical region of Thrace, covering most of present-day Bulgaria and Romania. It encompasses the southern Balkans from the Sea of Marmara to the Bosphorus, along the western shore of the Black Sea to the mouth of the Danube River. Ortelius based the map in part on the work of Jacob Gastaldi. It is beautifully decorated with an elaborate title cartouche, several ships and a particularly fanciful sea monster. Published in 1592 with Latin text on verso and page number 96.

References: Van den Broecke #159.

Condition: B

Original color with toning and light offsetting. There are two small holes in the left border and a centerfold separation at top that just touches the neatline. A few other holes and chips are confined to the blank margins.
