This map of the ancient world was published in Ephraim Pagit's Christianographie, or the Description of the Multitude and Sundry Sorts of Christians in the World not Subiect to the Pope ..., with various editions published in London between 1635-1674. According to Shirley, this map is based upon an anonymous oval world map dating back to circa 1600. The emphasis of the map is in identifying the various types of non-Catholic Christians across Europe, Asia and Africa and is filled annotations describing these sects including "The Abissine Christians Under Prester John", "Greek Christians The Patr. mixt with Turkes", and "Tarsus Some Christians Some writ that the wise men came to Christ duelt here" to name a few. Cartographically, Korea is shown as an island and Japan is quite misshapen. Decorated by three strapwork cartouches summarizing the Christian sects by continent and three sea monsters appearing in the stippled seas.
