A. Plan of the General Attack upon the Island of Guadaloupe, January 23d. 1759, from London Magazine, published 1759, hand color (6.9 x 4.4"). This small but evocative plan details the beginning of the Invasion of Guadeloupe, part of the Seven Years' War. It names several ships in the large British fleet that came to take the island, then under French control. By the time this plan was published in the June 1759 issue of London Magazine, the island was under British control. A compass rose orients the north to the top left. Reference: Jolly #LOND-168. Condition: The top margin has been trimmed to neatline, as issued, with a small portion of the neatline missing. There is also minor offsetting from an opposing page of text and marginal toning.

B. Plan of St. Lucia, in the West Indies: Shewing the Positions of the English & French Forces with the Attacks Made at Its Reduction in Decr. 1778, by Thomas Bowen, from Gentleman's Magazine, published 1779, black & white (9.9 x 7.4"). This is the first printed plan of the battle between the English and French forces in St. Lucia during the Revolutionary War. This superb representation illustrates the various attacks and counter attacks in December 1778 between General Meadows and Count d'Estaigne. North is oriented to the left. From the April 1779 edition of The Gentleman's Magazine. References: Jolly #GENT-266; Nebenzahl (REV) #148; Sellers & Van Ee #2073. Condition: Issued folding with some extraneous creases and light soiling mostly confined to the blank margins. The margin has been trimmed at left with a minor portion of the neatline missing.
