These three maps were published in the 1888 and 1892 annual reports of the Geological Survey of New Jersey, under the direction of George Cook (1888) and J.C. Smock (1892). The base maps are derived from surveys of the U.S. Coast & Geodetic office, with additional information provided by the State Geologist. The first map shows counties, towns, roads, railroads, light houses, and life saving stations. The map displays particularly good detail of the street grid pattern of the larger cities in the vicinity including New York, Trenton and Philadelphia. The second map depicts the watersheds in use (blue) and available watersheds (yellow) with numerous pumper stations located across the central and northern portion of the state. The third map vividly captures relief in degrees of brown tint, with both tidal marsh and fresh water marsh shown in blue. All maps drawn on scale of 5 miles per inch and lithographed by Julius Bien.
