This map of southeast Asia covers the region from eastern Africa, Arabia and India to the East Indies and Australia. It depicts the route of James Lancaster through Sumatra and Java, whose journey is credited with establishing the British East India Company. Lancaster's success in the region continued and he would later become a key officer in the company. Adorned by a decorative title cartouche illustrating the spice trade between the natives and European merchants.
