This is a nice, large-format map of the world showing the newest discoveries in the south. The map is filled with fine detail, including hundreds of place names, rivers and lakes. Political boundaries are highlighted in various outline color, including the Republic of Texas, which appears in its stovepipe configuration. There are large Iowa, Missouri, and Arkansas territories in the western United States, which also features an undefined boundary north of present-day Washington, reflecting the dispute between the US and Britain over the Oregon boundary. Alaska is labeled Russian Possessions and is largely devoid of information. Most of Australia has also been left blank, with the exception of South Australia and New South Wales, which appears to stretch nearly to Cape York Peninsula. The western coast is labeled New Holland. In the Antarctic, several new discoveries are shown, including New South Shetland and New Orkneys in the South Pacific, and D'Urville's Discovery 1840 and south of Australia.

Condition: B

Original outline color, issued folding on heavy paper with moderate offsetting, minor scattered foxing, and light soiling. We've included both a photograph and a scan of this map, with the photograph being the first image. Due to the map being folded on heavy paper, the fold lines have bluish shadows in the scanned image, which are caused by the scanner and do not appear on the map itself. Therefore the photograph shows how the map appears in person, whereas the scanned image can be magnified to view fine details.
