This detailed map of Africa offers a wealth of knowledge concerning the influence of various nationalities on the continent. Colonies possessed by the Germans, British, French, Italians, Portuguese, Spanish, and Turkish are shown, and the shipping routes of these nationalities to and from the continent are also depicted. There is excellent inland detail of cities, political boundaries, roads, and railroads (in use, under construction, and planned). The map is surrounded by four inset maps depicting the German possessions: the Slave Coast (Togo and Benin), Cameroon, Luderitz-Land (southern Namibia), and German East Africa (Tanzania). Also included is a small inset of the German Reich, extending east to include parts of Poland and Lithuania. Small insets of Saxony have been added adjacent to the insets of Luderitz-Land and German East Africa in the same scale to give Germans a sense of the size of these lands. A fascinating look at Africa at the turn of the 20th century. Dissected into 18 segments and mounted on linen.
