A striking image taken from a 1864 Report of the Secretary of the Navy, this fine stone lithograph is probably drawn from a photograph taken at the scene. It shows ten Union armored gunboats careening through rapids on the Red River, aided by a dam built to raise the water level. In the background is evidence of a great number of hastily felled trees used to construct the dam. A great view of these odd but powerful looking ships.
