"A Pictorial View of California; Including a Description of the Panama and Nicaragua Routes, with Information and Advice...", Bill, Henry

This narrative describes John Letts' journey to California in January 1849 via the Panama route. Included with his account are 48 tinted lithographs of scenes and views depicting the California Gold Rush, Mexico, and Central America. These views were based on the original drawings by George Cooper (Lett's companion) and lithographed by John Cameron, who also worked with Currier & Ives. Plates of particular interest include San Francisco, Sacramento, the American River, Sutter's Mill and Placerville to name a few. First published in 1852 under the title "California Illustrated," this is the re-titled second edition.

Plates are good to very good with scattered foxing, which is more prominent in the blank margins. Text is very good with light scattered foxing and occasional staining. Restored binding with original embossed cloth attached to new covers and spine label retained.
