A. The Sea Chart - An Historical Survey Based on the Collections in the National Maritime Museum, by Derek Howse and Michael Sanderson, published 1973 (8.9 x 11.1"). An excellent history of nautical charts, based on the collection of the National Maritime Museum of Greenwich. This useful and interesting history of marine cartography has illustrated examples from 1420 to 1971, with the majority predating 1800. Sixty plates of sea charts, some in color with accompanying essays. Hardbound in red cloth with dust jacket, 144pp. Condition: Contents very good with minor toning along the sheets' edges. Covers are very good with faint wear and a hint of soiling. There is a short tear and some toning on the dust jacket.

B. Sea Charts of the Early Explorers 13th to 17th Century, by Michel Mollat du Jourdin and Monique de La Ronciere with Marie-Madeleine Azard, Isabelle Raynaud-Nguyen and Marie-Antoinette Vannereau, published 1984 (10.0 x 13.6"). This fascinating reference on sea charts was written by a team of experts, with the introduction by Michel Mollat du Jourdin and notes on the plates by Monique de La Ronciere. Translated from French and published by Thames and Hudson, 1984. A beautiful book that tells the story of the earliest explorers and the portolan charts that record their discoveries. 298 pp. with 120 illustrations, 100 in color. Hardbound in burgundy cloth with pictorial dust jacket. Condition: Contents near fine with just a hint of toning across the top edge of the sheets. There is faint soiling on the covers and light toning on the dust jacket.
