This is the first edition of this interesting and uncommon ethnographic map of North America with 34 different tribal groups listed and color-coded on the map. An inset at lower left identifies the distribution of various languages on the continent. Berghaus’ Physical Atlas was the first truly comprehensive thematic atlas and a monumental work in the history of thematic cartography.

Original color with toning along the centerfold and edges of the sheet. There are short centerfold separations at top and bottom, with the bottom separation just entering the image.
