This uncommon sea chart of the English Channel is beautifully engraved. The seas are filled with rhumb lines and two ships sail through the channel. North is oriented to the left. At the top of the chart a portion of the coastlines of Brittany, France and Cornwall, England are included. The many hazards to ships near the Isles of Scilly are identified. Brest, Penzance, and other coastal towns are located. A large title cartouche incorporates the distance scales and features several allegorical figures employed in map making activities around a large globe.
