"[Lot of 2] Johnson's Iowa and Nebraska [and] County Map of the States of Iowa and Missouri",

A. Johnson's Iowa and Nebraska, by A.J. Johnson, dated 1864 (22.9 x 16.9"). This interesting map focuses on Iowa and the eastern part of the Nebraska Territory, which was just a couple years shy of statehood at the time of publication. Despite the 1864 date on the map, the county configuration is up to date as of 1865, as is apparent from the border between Monona and Crawford counties in Iowa and the presence of Jones County in Nebraska. Small sections of Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Missouri appear as well. Roads and railroads are shown. The map features a decorative border. Condition: There are a few faint spots, light toning, and minor offsetting.

B. County Map of the States of Iowa and Missouri, by Samuel Augustus Mitchell, from Mitchell's New General Atlas, dated 1872 (11.8 x 14.3"). This political map includes some geographical detail and several roads and railroads. In Iowa, county configuration is current up to 1870, with Crocker County formed but not yet absorbed back into Kossuth. Missouri's counties are accurate to 1869, as Texas County has not expanded into Douglas yet. The map includes a floral border. Drawn and engraved by W.H. Gamble. Condition: Faint scattered foxing with an edge tear that enters into the border at top left. There are small chips in the left blank margin and toning along the edges of the sheet.
