A. Cartographical Curiosities, by Gillian Hall, published 1978, black & white (9.8 x 7.3"). This reference book corresponds to the British Library Map Library's 1978 exhibition of the same title. It discusses unusual and outlandish maps, including satirical maps, geographical misconceptions, invented lands, and maps with a symbolic shape. Features numerous illustrations. Paperback, 63 pp., with a complete list of the exhibits at the end. Condition: There is faint toning along the edges of the text and on the cover.

B. Cartographica Curiosa - Being a Catalogue of the Rare, the Curious and the Beautiful in Our Collection of Maps, Atlases and Books of Voyages and Discovery, by Stephanie Hoppen, published 1981, printed color (9.6 x 6.9"). This fascinating catalogue includes a wide assortment of items, including wall maps, "myths, beasts and fantastic maps," works focused on the Holy Land, books on shipwrecks, references, and more. Featuring 114 items in all, it is illustrated with numerous images, with an insert showcasing five items in full color. Paperback. Condition: Contents fine with a touch of soiling on the cover. C. The Island of California - A History of the Myth, by Dora Beale Polk, published 1991, black & white (6.4 x 9.6"). This terrific book on the island of California is illustrated throughout with detailed reproductions of historical maps, and combines history, geography, and cartography with literature and fantastic mythology. 8vo, hardbound in burgundy cloth with gilt titling on spine and a dust jacket. Condition: Contents fine with minor wear to the spine. The dust jacket has minor soiling and wear.
