This set of three yachting scenes is based on watercolor paintings by Frederic Schiller Cozzens, an American artist known primarily for his maritime scenes. These chromolithographs were created by Armstrong & Co. and published by Charles Scribner's Sons in New York in one of the most popular works on yachting in the 19th century, American Yachts, Their Clubs and Races. The limited edition series was originally sold by subscription and included 26 plates. The titles and plate numbers are printed on labels affixed to the reverse. This lot includes:

A. Plate IX Off Soundings - A Smoky Sou'wester - Bedouin. Intrepid. Namouna.
B. Plate XV Lying-to Off George's Banks - Norseman. Atalanta.
C. Plate XXIII Before the Wind - Newport - 1883 - Social. Vixen. Arrow. Permelia Maggie.

Attractive color with a few minor abrasions. Plate XV has a number of tiny abrasions at bottom, many of which have had some minor color infilled in order to reduce their appearance.
