Tin lunar globe on a plastic stand shaped to mimic the surface of the moon. The 9-inch globe is screen printed with photographic images of the moon’s surface. A raised black and white striped equatorial band divides the sphere into visible and dark sides. The side visible from earth is a composite of photographs taken from the U.S. orbiter Copernicus. The dark side of the moon is incomplete as a full photographic survey had yet to be completed. Both Soviet and U.S. (including Apollo 11 & 12) landing sites are noted in orange with geological features labeled in green.

The company founded by Julius Chein in 1903 was primarily an American toy maker specializing in metal-stamped toys and banks with colorful lithographed surfaces. Chein produced a number of educational globes reflecting public interest in the American space program.
