Matching Pair of Charts Showing the Paths of the Comets

This matching pair of charts depicts the passage of comets in the northern and southern skies between the years 1530-1704. Each chart is centered on the ecliptic poles and shows the constellation figures based on classical mythology, without showing the stars. The paths of dozens of comets are illustrated, including those sighted by Tycho Brahe, John Flamsteed, Johannes Hevelius, and many others. The charts also identify 8 "newly discovered" stars between 1572-1686. Surrounding the hemispheres are various diagrams related to comets and a chart listing details regarding the 38 comets and 8 stars depicted on the charts. These charts are uncommon, especially in a matching set.
