This scarce plan was published by one of the most distinguished Spanish cartographers of the eighteenth century, Lopez de Vargas Machuca (1730-1802), who was Geographer to the King of Spain. This bird's-eye plan depicts the fortress of Panama City, including some parts of the city outside the fortifications. A key at top right identifies 34 buildings and features, and a note below the title describes the location and gives a brief history of the city. A very uncommon map, as few Spanish maps were ever published.
