This elaborate, decorative map of the island is filled with information concerning the mountains, forests, cities and ports. Columbus first visited Hispaniola in 1492 and it is there that his flagship, the Santa Maria, ran aground somewhere on the north coast of present-day Haiti. A nice, dark impression on watermarked paper with very wide, deckle-edged margins and some printer's ink residue. There is light soiling in blank margins and a small hole in bottom blank margin that has been professionally repaired.
