Ortelius based his map of the Piedmont region on the cartography of Giacomo Gastaldi. Milan is in the upper right corner and Monaco is at lower left. The map is a great illustration of the mountainous countryside and is filled with information including even the tiniest of villages. Ornamented with two cartouches and a sailing ship in the Mediterranean. Published in the first Dutch edition in 1573.
