"Persici sive Sophorum Regni Typus", Ortelius, Abraham

Ortelius based this fine map of the Persian Empire in part on Gastaldi's 1564 map of Asia Minor and on his own 1567 map of Asia. The map is filled with village and city names. Decorative elements include a large strap work title cartouche and a distance scale surmounted by a strange bestiary creature. Dutch text on verso with page number 49 indicates this map was published circa 1573, an early edition of Theatrum.

Attractive old color on watermarked paper. There are light damp stains in blank margins, barely entering map at top corners, resulting in two small tears in the lower right blank margin.
