This matching pair of maps depicts northern and southern Portugal. Large cities are depicted with miniature bird's-eye views, and mountains and forests are illustrated pictorially. Each map has decorative title and scale of miles cartouches. The northern sheet is adorned with a large ship bearing a dedication to John IV of Portugal, the King of Portugal and the Algarves from 1640 until his death in 1656.

Watermarked paper with light soiling. The northern sheet has a couple of minute worm holes near cartouche, and has been remargined at bottom with part of the neatline in facsimile.
