This lot includes three maps of Mexico from different editions of Robertson's History of America including:

A. Mexico, or New Spain; in which the Motions of Cortes may be Traced… by Thomas Kitchin, dated 1795, black & white (15" x 11.3"). This is a very attractive map of the American Southwest and Mexico. California is labeled New Albion with no detail outside of a few coastal place names. The region of present-day Arizona and New Mexico is well delineated with numerous Indian villages and the locations of missions. The area from New Mexico to Louisiana is named as "Great Space of Land Unknown." The small Texas settlement of Cenis is near the New Kingdm. of Leon. An inset shows Mexico City on the large Lake of Mexico. Finely engraved with a decorative title cartouche and compass rose. This map was originally published in 1777, this being the 1795 edition by W. Strahan and T. Cadell. Condition - light offsetting with a binding trim at upper left. Issued folding.

B. Carte du Mexique ou de la Nouvelle Espagne ou l'on peut Suivre les Mouvemens des Cortes pour l'Histoire de l'Amerique by Tardieu, dated 1818, hand colored (14.8" x 11"). This is a French variant of the map above with some minor changes and additions. Condition - scattered foxing primarily in the blank margins, else very good. Issued folding.

C. Mexico, or New Spain Showing the Route of Cortes, by Sidney Hall, dated 1827, black & white (15.3" x 9.5"). This later variant extends to cover Florida, portions of Louisiana, and Central America south to Panama. Condition - Scattered foxing with a closed tear on verso at the lower left binding trim.
