Dr. Playfair (1738-1819), was a minister, historiographer to the Prince of Wales, and Principal of the United College of St Salvator and St Leonard in the University of St Andrews from 1799 until his death. The maps from Playfair's A New General Atlas are quite scarce. This detailed map of the continent of Asia extends from Saudi Arabia in the west, to Novaya Zemlya in the north, to the northern half of Sumatra and Borneo. Engraved by Samuel John Neele and published by Macredie, Skelly & Co.
