This is a rare view of the ancient city of Smyrna from Schenk's important town atlas. Smyrna was located at a central and strategic point on the Aegean coast of Anatolia. The Latin title at bottom mentions the Meles River, which flowed by Smyrna, and was worshiped in the valley, as well as the earthquake in 2nd century AD that destroyed the city.
