"[Lot of 7 - Captain James Cook]",

This set of engraved plates includes a fine, folio interpretation of his death on the island of Owahoo in February, 1779. The plates are as follows:

A. Mort de Cook, by Benard, black & white, (14.3 x 8.8"). Large and graphic rendering of the murder of Cook. Dark impression on thick hand laid paper which folds as issued. There are two short splits just into image at bottom, one with an old paper repair on verso. (B)

B. Captain Cook., by N. Dance & W. Holl, hand color, (4 x 5.5"). Very beautiful etched formal portrait of Cook in Navy uniform. Early, fine impression with ink standing proud on the paper. Gold highlights over hand coloring. (A+)

C. Cook's Tod, black & white, (8 x 6.4") Well rendered full aquatint etching. At upper left is "6fer Jahragang" but the etching carries no publisher's imprint. (B+)

D. An Offering Before Capt. Cook, in the Sandwich Islands., drawn by Webber, engraved by Heath and published by Harrison, 1784, hand color, (6.8 x 5.3"). Very uncommon engraving that depicts a human sacrifice. (B+)

E. An Offering Before Capt. Cook, in the Sandwich Islands., drawn by Webber, engraved by Heath and published by Harrison, 1784, hand color, (6.8 x 5.3"). Capt. Cook being offered a roast pig in the company of priests at the house of Lono, the God of Agricultrue. (B+)

F. Representation of an Offering to Captn. Cook, and his Officers at Owhyhee one of the Sandwich Islands., by Webber & Page, hand color, (7 x .2"). (A)

G. An Offering Before Captain Cook in the Sandwich Islands. by T. Kelly, 1832, hand color, (7.5 x 6.2"). (A)
