These two lithographs are from Simpson's series, The Seat of War in The East, which is one of the most comprehensive visual records of the Crimean War. They depict the Battle of Balaclava, Ukraine on October 25, 1854 during the Crimean War. Charge of the Heavy Cavalry Brigade shows the Enniskillen Dragoons and the 5th Dragoon Guards engaging the Russian cavalry in the middle of the light cavalry brigade's camp, which the Russian troops succeed in plundering. Charge of the Light Cavalry Brigade depicts lines of the cavalry advancing straight into a line of cannon fire during the battle. The prints were lithographed by E. Walker and published in Paul and Dominic Colnaghi's "Authentic Series" by Day & Sons, lithographers to the Queen.
