"Sketch of the Acquisitions of Russia Since the Accession of Peter 1st to the Throne", Arrowsmith, John

This interesting map is from an early edition of Arrowsmith's London Atlas, which was one of the first truly "modern" atlases of the nineteenth century. It alludes to how uncomfortable the British felt regarding the strength of the Russian empire. The map depicts the territorial gains made by the Russians since 1689 from Sweden, Poland, Turkey, and Persia, with notations in the upper-right corner. The publisher's imprint is by John Murray, 50 Albemarle Street, London.
