This uncommon regional map of Catalonia, one of seventeen autonomous communities in the kingdom of Spain, is divided into its provinces. This map was published at the end of the War of the Spanish Succession, during which time Catalonia supported Charles VI of Valencia. On September 11, 1714, Barcelona fell to Philip V of Bourbon, resulting in Catalonia being incorporated into a united Spanish administration, with Philip as King of Spain . The map depicts the rivers, mountains and towns of the region, including Barcelona and Tarragona. The decorative title cartouche features the coat of arms of Catalonia on a drape being held up by cherubs.
