Very uncommon, large and beautiful engraved map of the world on Mercator's Projection. There are numerous decorative vignettes throughout the map, ranging from whaling ships at sea to armies of horsemen battling across the Sahara. Within the map are detailed views of countries, rivers, sailing routes and other historical information. Ice flows of both the Arctic and Antarctic are graphically portrayed. A large inset shows the relative height of mountains of each continent and a second inset displays the major rivers and their lengths.
