Detailed engraving of Mt. Edgecumbe, located at the southern end of Kruzof Island, Alaska. This scene was based upon the observations of George Dixon who had previously served under Captain Cook during his third expedition. While lesser known than other students of Cook, his chief areas of exploration were the Queen Charlotte Islands and Queen Charlotte Sound, Yakutat Bay (Port Mulgrave), Sitka Sound (Norfolk Bay), and the Dixon Entrance. While not the first European to explore the region of the Queen Charlotte Islands, he was the first to realize they were islands and not part of the mainland.
