This full-length portrait of Charles II of England (1630-1685) shows the king in all of his regal glory, with the arms of the Order of the Garter in the background. Charles II succeeded his father, King Charles I, after his execution, and was succeeded by his brother James. Used as the frontispiece for Moses Pitt's ill-fated atlas, it was engraved by Robert White, born in London in 1645, who was a talented engraver of line portraits.
