Morse's popular series of geographies, with their easy to read maps and fact-filled text, quickly became a standard for American educators during the early 19th century. This edition contains a total of 53 wax-engraved maps including a double-page map of the United States that features a large Indian Territory that stretches as far west as the Rocky Mountains, as does the large Oregon Territory. Missouri Territory is also oversized and extends from the Rockies to the Missouri River. Minnesota is delineated leaving the area westward to the Missouri River not yet named as Dakota. This map is on a double page but the area of the Southwest is not included. Also with fine maps of each state or territory, sometimes alone but often with two or three maps together as with "Iowa and Wisconsin." Also with maps of world countries including an uncommon map of Iceland, Africa with a huge "Unexplored Region" and others of interest. 4to, frontis, title page, preface, text, maps and illustrations, 72 pages. Complete. Hardbound in original decorative paper covered boards with red leather spine.
