This rare and very fine bird's-eye view shows the fortified city of Ferrara in terrific detail. The key at upper right locates 32 important buildings. The view is beautifully rendered and finely engraved to show detail down to individual buildings, even including the windows. The River Po contains several local small boats and is crossed by two bridges; one with a draw bridge section to protect the city gate, and the other with a section that raises to allow masted boats to pass beneath. The entire town is surrounded by a complex fortified wall with ramparts, towers and vestibules.

Very nice impression on a full sheet with very wide margins. Original color that is a little subdued. Split along lower centerfold into map about 3" with an old repair that would benefit from professional conservation.
