"Nouveau Plan de l'Orient du Port-Louis et de Leurs Rades…", Chalmandrier, Nicolas

This is a rare plan of L'Orient and Port Louis in Brittany, the major port and former base of the Compagnie des Indes, which was established in the 17th century to compete with the British and Dutch East India companies in colonial India. The Compagnie des Indes was abolished in 1769 and all its properties and assets were transferred to King Louis XVI. This plan provides an exquisite illustration of the vicinity with nearly photographic quality detail. It is surrounded by a beautifully engraved, picture-frame style border.

Printed on sturdy paper with large margins. Soil, stains and short tears in the blank margins, but the plan is fine except for an extraneous soft horizontal crease.
