"Hooker's New Pocket Plan of the City of New York", Hooker, W. J.

A rare issue of Hooker's pocket map of Manhattan that extends as far north as Thirty-First Street. The hand coloring ends at Fourteenth Street except for the green wash along the shoreline of the Hudson and East Rivers. The streets, parks, Battery, Washington Square, Bellevue, Hudson Square, and docks along the Hudson and East Rivers are among the voluminous information presented. Tables along the sides and bottom list Place of Public Worship, Markets, Banks, U.S. Offices, Daily Public Journals, Colleges, Libraries, Theatres & Gardens, etc. Also lists the various City Hall buildings. This 1841 edition is significantly different from the 1831 edition with more text and place names and a different title without the surrounding box-style cartouche. The title continues "Drawn, Engraved, Printed & Sold by W. Hooker, Wholesale & Retail at the Nautical Store of E.& G.W Blunt. Where all the Nautical Works of Edm. M. Blunt are Published..." Printed on fine banknote style paper pasted into original red paper cover (3" x 4.4").

The map has two fold splits at cover edge some archival tape on verso and some scattered toning or foxing. Folds into worn and creased paper covers with manuscript signature, dated 1844 inside front cover.
