A. Kansas, The Berry Publishing Co., 1911, Printed Color, (26 x 14.5"). This is a scare issue from the little known firm of Berry Publishing. The printing quality is exceptional with bright coloring that is pleasantly offset by a light blue/gray grid overprinted on the map. Drawn on a scale of 16 miles per inch thus showing excellent detail, locating all counties, wagon roads, rivers and scores of towns and villages. County development was completed in 1893 and the map conforms to current county layout. The index on verso locates all major rivers, the "Electric Lines in Kansas," and provides the "Population according to the 1910 Official Census." The map folds into a tri-fold cover titled "Kansas. The Berry Publishing Co's Vest Pocket Map showing Counties, Cities, Towns, Railways, Rivers, Creeks, etc." This pocket map is the same size and is reminiscent of Rand McNally & Company's own series of Vest Pocket maps. The overleaf and insides are blank with no advertising. This company is known to have published on their own at least one atlas plus other maps including a plan of Kansas City, so this is not simply a re-publishing the works of Cram or Rand McNally, a common practice. A scare issue for which we find only one prior record. Condition - the map is fine with bright color and no flaws save one tiny fold intersection split. The paper covers are clean with no frontal flaws but the overleaf panel has several breaks or tears along its 'spine' and is nearly loose. (A)

A. Kansas, U.S. Geological Survey, ca. 1898, Printed Color, (35 x 18"). Large map of Kansas with county boundaries shown in outline. There is nice detail of towns, railroads and topography. Compiled under the direction of Henry Gannett. Condition - there is a tiny fold separation in the blank margin. (A).
