A terrific, richly colored map of the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West that shows Idaho Territory in a very early configuration occupying much of Montana and Wyoming. Early settlements and mining areas in Idaho are noted including Cantonment Stevens, Elk City, the Salmon River mines, Ft. Boisee and Pierce City. Locates exploration routes and wagon trails. This edition does not delineate the proposed routes for the transcontinental railways. It locates important landmarks such as the Three Tetons, and Three Buttes, South Pass, etc. The organized counties of both Oregon and Washington are confined west of the mountain ranges except for Skamania and Walla Walla Counties. Surrounded by Colton's signature strapwork border. A very early configuration of Idaho Territory.
