Complete small geography with maps of the World, Europe, Africa, Asia, the Americas, and France. The world map, Mappemonde Representee en Hemispheres, dated 1760, is highly decorative. It shows a huge Sea of the West and suggests a possible Northwest Passage. The discovery of Australia and New Zealand is incomplete with large coastal areas left blank. On the map of the Western Hemisphere a secondary cartouche hides the Sea of the West. Hard bound in full mottled calf, spine with raised bands and tooled and gilt title and decorations. 12mo, marbled end papers, title page, contents, 471 pp, six folding copper engraved maps. Edges tinted red. Published in Paris, Quay des Augustins, Chez Bauche.

Condition: A

A lovely example of this atlas with the maps being very good to fine. The world map has some soil in the border. The map of Africa has some extraneous creasing and toning at edge. Contents tight, end papers fine. The boards show very little wear but the leather at spine edge is cracking.
