"Florida", Morse & Breese

This map was printed using the revolutionary cerographic process, a milestone in cartographic printing techniques. This early printed color technique was an important change in the way maps were produced and the only truly American cartographic publishing innovation.

A great pre-statehood map of Florida issued just three years before the territory gained statehood. This is a great unfolded example from this early cerographic atlas. The map gives good detail of the numerous roads and settlements shown mainly in the northern and central parts of the state. The southern tip is covered primarily by the Everglades. Inset map of the "West Part of Florida" is drawn on the same scale as the main map.

Beautiful example with strong impression and color, full margins. The paper is clean and bright with two tiny printer's ink smudges, still a fine example.
