Uncommon map of California that names several Gold Regions. The map names 33 counties with a huge Los Angeles county stretching from the Pacific Ocean to New Mexico, this occupying all of today's Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The upper right is fully occupied with an inset map of Utah and New Mexico Territories. Utah, with its numerous horizontal counties, occupies all of Colorado. With some geographical errors including the depiction of Lake Tahoe (Mountain Lake) shown emptying into the South Fork of the American River. An example of early printed color based on the process invented by Morse & Breese.
