"[Lot of 3 - Chesapeake Bay]", U.S. Coast Survey

This matched set of charts provides a detailed examination of the northern portion of Chesapeake Bay that includes a surprising amount of detail along the coastal lands. These navigational aids are filled with sailing directions, dangers in the area, and information on tides, winds, currents, etc. Size given is approximate for each chart. Together this set covers the area from where the Susquehanna River enters the bay to where the Potomac River flows into the bay. The two northern sheets (1&2) are very detailed along part of the shoreline as well as having thousands of soundings. The land detail includes roads, railroads, wooded areas, farmland and streams. The street layout of Baltimore is shown in great detail. This southern sheet (#3) has no land detail but has thousands of soundings. The set includes:

1) Chesapeake Bay Sheet No. 1 From the Head of the Bay to the Mouth of the Magothy River, (37 x 29.5").
2) Map of Chesapeake Bay From the Head of the Bay to the Mouth of the Potomac River Sheet No. 2, (37 x 29.5").
3) Preliminary Chart of Chesapeake Bay Sheet No. 3 From the Mouth of the Hudson River to the Mouth of the Potomac River, (36.3 x 30").
