A most unusual and rarely seen double hemispheric map of the world surrounded by vignettes. Along the top are 28 portraits titled "Principle Varieties of the Human Race," with each type named. Along the bottom are 39 models titled "Female Costumes of Different Parts of the World," each numbered and keyed to a list of countries. Other vignettes along the sides show pyramids, elephants, Greek ruins, etc. At center is a nice engraving of the lighthouse at Alexandria. A rarely offered map that had limited publication in Charles Savage's book. The map appears unchanged throughout its publication in the 1850's and early 1860's.

Condition: C+

Close trimmed at right with a few areas of small loss to border, edge tear at left poorly closed, some stains, and a crease. Some of these flaws have archival tape repair on verso. Actually the map is quite sound and intact with nice impression and original hand coloring.
