"[Lot of 2] The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad System", Railroad Companies, (Various)

This lot is comprised of two identical base maps, which together provide a most intriguing historical comparison of the growth for this most famous railway. In both cases the map is fully colored in light yellow with all details in black except lakes which are in blue. The railroad lines are identified by bright red overprinting. Originating in Chicago with the majority of the network in the mid-west, the line continues to Texas, the Southwest and the California coast. The Southwest provided the biggest draw for rail passengers with stops like the Grand Canyon and Santa Fe, and the legendary Fred Harvey hotels and restaurants found along the way, not to mention the Harvey Girls. The legend indicates Double Tracks, Projected and Under Construction tracks. All stops are named. Blank verso. The subtle differences between the two will provide interesting study.
