"Map of Plant System of Railway & Steamer Lines, and Connections", Railroad Companies, (Various)

This is a most uncommon railroad promotional timetable that is in a 36-page brochure format with covers rather than a folding timetable. As such it has survived in much finer condition than timetables are typically found. At center is the double page map with title given above. The map details the rail lines throughout Alabama, Georgia, Florida and part of South Carolina. Includes steamship lines to Havana, Key West, Tampa and Miami. An index lists timetables for Main Lines, Branch Lines, Sleeping Car Lines, Steamship Lines and Miscellaneous information. Illustrated advert for the Southern Express Company "For All Parts of the Country." Sixteen resorts and hotels are finely illustrated on four pages, including: Cordova, Ponce de Leon, and Alcazar in St. Augustine; the Royal Poinciana, and Palm Beach Inn, in Palm Beach, the Colonial in Nassau; Tampa Bay Hotel; the Seminole in Winter Park, and the Ocalao House. Thicker paper covers in color with large logo "The Plant System," W.B. Denham, General Superintendent and B.W. Wrenn, Passenger Traffic Manager. Dated November, 1900.

The Plant System operated a large network of standard gauge lines from 1860 until 1902 when the line was acquired by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. Earlier, the line operated from 1847 as the Savannah, Florida and Western Railway which was taken over by Henry B. Plant in 1860.
