This very uncommon and simply drawn map features the Independent Republic of Texas with Austin and Santa Fe the only named towns. However, it is not clear if Santa Fe is in New Mexico or Texas. Texas is in an odd shape with curved borders. The Rocky Mountains are called the Mont Rocheux/i>. The Sierra Nevada mountains are well located but the majority of the west is completely blank; San Francisco, Bodega and Monterey are named along the coast. On the Columbia River about in the location of Walla-Walla is a City. Mexico is in control of the Southwest, Alaska is Amerique Russie and Canada is Nouvle. Bretagne. This French map portrays the border between the United States and British Columbia as it is today, rather than representing either the British and U.S. claims in the Oregon Territory. An inset map of the Environs of Mexico is in a large scroll above the title. Fancy titling with flourishes and a keyboard-style border embellish the map. Engraved by A. Laurens.
