"Men-Dow-Min or The Corn A Chippewa Dwarf", Lewis, J. O.

This portrait is from the rarest of Indian prints from the first published collection of portraits of native North Americans. They were made "on the spot and in the field" by James Otto Lewis, primarily during treaty meetings in the Upper Great Lakes during the 1820s. The original art for this lithograph was painted at the Treaty of Green Bay 1827 by Lewis. This treaty was actually a complex set of treaties that spanned many years - read more here. Lithographed on stone by Lehman & Duval and reportedly colored by J. Barincou.

Grading just the image, it is fine. The very wide margins have some flaws: a 3" tear in the lower left margin poorly closed on both sides, and a similar repair at the upper right tip, also a small stain spot in lower right corner.
